- Marine Corps Gazette"Most of 'Brennan's War' seems one long, drawn-out firefight. This book is not one battle, it's years of constant battle. when one looks at the time Brennan spent in Vietnam and the type of unit he served with, it becomes real. My first reaction was that 'Brennan's War" was a work of fiction.--no one in Vietnam was involved in enemy contact for such a long period of time. Almost every page contains vivid descriptions of ambush and counter-ambush, air assaults and rescue attempts" - Barrett Tillman"the reader sees bloody combat amid lavishly beautiful surroundings---a juxtaposition so constant it begins to seem
Mick joined Joe on stage in November 2002 in a benefit concert for the striking workers of the fire brigade union. The book does a great job in filling us in on Strummer's "wilderness years" which lasted from around 1985 to 1998. Included is the account of an air-ground raid that killed more high-ranking enemy officers than any similar engagement of the war: a full colonel, four majors and four senior captains.
An expansion and careful reworking of his previous work, Brennan's War, published in 1985, and in the vein of classic memoirs by Johnnie Clark and Frederick Downs, the book is a harrowing firsthand account of life and death in war..
"The division's expendables." That's what one division commander called the 1/9th Cavalry Blue platoons during the Vietnam War
